The Sun Comes Out, The Trucks Fly Out

Today's been a perfect sunny Lower Mainland day, with plenty of breezy fresh air.  A 2008 Ranger went out today with its new family.

Nice little truck.  It will be used as a commuter vehicle, but with the added practicality of being able to haul stuff when called upon.

Another customer is just finishing his insurance papers on a gorgeous 2006 Dodge Ram 3500 Laramie Megacab.

The Megacabs are rare trucks-- and hard to keep in stock!

One Man's Tragedy Is Another Man's Triumph

A beautiful lifted F-350 Lariat was sold about 12 days ago.  I've had several calls on it since, as the webmaster of the www.crossbordervehicle.com site has a hard time keeping up with the huge turnover we get.  The customers who called on it were quite disappointed that it was gone, so when I found out that the sale has just collapsed, I was quick to let them know.

My point?  It's never fully gone until it's gone.  We get information from potential customers as part of our attempt to give the best possible service.  If there is any way we can help them find the vehicle they are looking for, that's what we want to do.

If we can help you by doing the shopping for you, let us know!

Not Dead Yet

General Motors has taken it on the chin recently, but their strong truck sales has contributed to a kind of remission for the company.

Hopefully for our North American economy, they really are feeling better.  But however much we (and others) approve of their trucks, so far as a business they're not yet healthy enough to be sexy.

Not even their spokesmodels can accomplish that while they're still applying to draw down more government funds.  Thank goodness their pickups are still feeling happy.

Dodge This!

I've been focused on Fords so far, but that's not to say that we don't have a full complement of other brands.  As a matter of fact, we do.  But don't take my word for it:  look for yourself!

This glistening 2007 glossy red lifted diesel Dodge Laramie is as impressive as you'll find anywhere.  Only 75,000 on the odometer, listing at $43850, it's a beautiful truck.  I've been impressed by how smooth the Dodge trucks drive; they have really nice suspension to go with the Cummins engine and other Laramie-trim goodies.

According to rc-trucks.org, "Dodge trucks have an outstanding reputation, and the wide variety of models offer a good choice for just about anyone."  Others agree, calling Dodge the "top dog".  We think it's too close to call, but if Dodge wins out for you, give this 3500 a try; you won't be disappointed.

2008 Ford F-450 King Ranch

(This truck deserves a big title, because anything smaller just wouldn't suit.)

"If the universe is bigger and stranger than I can imagine, it's best to meet it with an empty bladder."
John Scalzi, Old Man's War, 2005

You might want to take that sage advice before you view the F-450, because the sheer might of this truck might well overwhelm your control of bodily functions.  Autoblog's "In The Garage" feature said,
The first time we laid eyes on Ford's new F-450, we knew that we wanted to run one through the ringer. Intended to satisfy those customers who find traditional "one ton" dually trucks to be a bit too limiting, this massive vehicle pegged our more-is-better meter. The F-450 is, in fact, so big as to make the title of this post a complete misnomer, as it takes something more like a barn to house this much truck.

Not convinced?  They go on to say,
By the numbers, this truck is quite simply the largest and most capable vehicle we've ever tested. At more than nineteen feet long, over eight feet wide, and tipping the scales right around four tons, we're no longer talking about a casual means by which to commute to work or run the kids to a ball game; no, this truck is intended to do one thing -- moving more material than any other pickup on the market. Ford gives the truck a payload rating of 5,720 lbs, but more impressive is the gross combined vehicle weight of 33,000 lbs. That's sufficient to allow towing a trailer of up to 24,000 lbs for the 4x4 pictured here (2WD fans can add another 500 lbs) - a whopping two and a half tons more than any one-ton on the market, and the answer to any question pertaining to this truck's purpose in life....This, folks, is a lot of truck.

We're offering it right now for $57,850.  The odometer is sitting at 27000, no accidents.  Someone out there with lots to haul and an eye for quality is going to snap this one up quick-like!

Rain And Readiness

It's October in BC's Lower Mainland.  Thus, it's raining.  It's pouring.  Earlier today I came across an elderly gentlemen reposing in an alley, a copy of Tropic of Cancer nearby, and, indeed, he was snoring loudly.  Looking out the window now, it's become that misty droplet rain we know so well:  it renders umbrellas nearly useless, as it seems to fill the air rather than falling from any particular direction.

When you ride or drive in the rain, you have to be ready for a higher level of unpredictability.  Hydroplaning, slicker roads as the oils in the asphalt bead up, lower visibility:  a whole host of factors add, er, 'adventure' to motoring during a deluge.

Another way rain and readiness are related:  generally folks who are determined enough to come out to the dealership during rain are closer to being ready to buy a quality vehicle.  They've probably gone through many if not most of the preliminary steps, and are more likely to have narrowed down their selection to a few choices.  They want to get in, get out, and nobody gets hurt.

I enjoy talking with pretty much every kind of customer, but when it's pouring sheets of rain, it's an added bonus that most folks are ready sooner to come in from the weather and sit down and make a good deal.

Gone So Long

The radio in the dealership plays JackFM all the time, so we end up hearing Chilliwack pretty regularly.  So it was bitterly ironic when the nagging hunch I had was correct:  the stunning 08 F-350 Harley I was extolling had been sold!

WTFBBQ?!  It had only been on the stock list 9 days, and generally 2-3 of those are taken up with the truck being in the shop getting it's exhaustive safety inspection and any maintenance (oil change & filter, brake pads, etc) it might need.

It's one of the most beautiful trucks I've seen, and I can't even offer it for sale!  Et tu, Brute?  I feel like I've been killed by the only thing I ever loved.  Sorta.

Any-hoo, let this be a lesson to us all:  don't let the sun go down while you are still hunting for a Harley! (Or any of our trucks-- they're out of here faster than a deadbeat dad at a PAC meeting.)  Call or email, put down a deposit, and lock that truck up.  If you don't you can be sure someone else will.  I guess that's the way the Chilli wacks.... or something.

Gone gone gone she's been gone so long,
she's been gone gone gone so long....

The King of the Ranch

The Ford King Ranch editions are a whole different breed of truck.  One reviewer , focusing on the F-150 version, states,
Make no mistake: the new F-150 is a beautiful vehicle, easily the best looking pickup truck crafted by hand of man. Head on, it laughs at the Rising Sun’s weedy take on aesthetic intimidation and shakes its head in disbelief at the overwrought big-rig wannabe nonsense peddled by The Dodge Boys. The General’s new GMT900s are (still) the F-150’s only competition, but they are just evolutions of older, uglier vehicles; the F-150 is a modern, clean-sheet design that simply nails it. If Carl Jung were alive, he would designate Ford’s brot-und-butter pickup the archetypal pickup.
The King Ranch Fords give you a truck with a living room in the cab.  The King Ranch brand speaks of master craftsmanship, durability and longevity in thick saddle leather.

Put into the Fords, it's wrapped around spacious appointments for customers who demand comfort:
The first thing we noticed when firing up... was how quiet the well-insulated, upscale cabin is. It’s designed to accommodate drivers of different sizes, with a tilt steering wheel and adjustable pedals. The plush leather seat is height-adjustable and tilts to the perfect angle for comfortable driving. (PickupTrucks.com)
We've got two 2006 F-350 King Ranch editions in stock at the moment-- a few others rolled in the last three weeks, but our guys upstairs keep hustling to make sure our customers have access to these beauties.

One (Stock# R21528) has 75000 on the odometer and is listed at $36,800.  Black exterior, with the King Ranch saddle leather interior and all the opulent trimmings that go with this icon.

The other (Stock# 41355) has 83000 on the odo and is listed at $35,850.  This truck is white on the outside, and the inside is virtually identical.  (Regulation King Ranch trim.)

If you're looking for the Rolls-Royce of trucks, look no further!

2008 F-350 Harley Davidson

A client from Ft. St. John is flying down today or tomorrow to pick up his 2008 F-350 Harley Davidson-- a lifted black beauty that's going to turn heads up in the Peace River Country.

With only 59800 on the odometer, this 8 cylinder automatic turbo diesel with 4 wheel disk ABS was listed for $57,850.  I'll stay coy about what price it's going out the door for, but as the end of the month comes, my bosses are motivated to make deals!

We're always on the lookout for trucks like this, because they sell FAST.  That means if you want one, you need to move fast, too.  Contact me at 604-825-8571 or jeff@applewood.ca or browse our website (www.crossbordervehicle.com) to see what we've got available.  Be aware that these trucks often sell before even making it to the website, so contacting me directly might be your best bet.
